Sharing Good News

Quite a bit has been happening lately, and I don't want to share too much because a lot of it is still in the works, but here's a synopsis:

I have three new clients and a potential one to start in May. Two of the three clients have been pending for a while, and the other was a recent one. I'm grateful for all of them - keeps me busy, and as my husband says, "Off the streets and out of trouble."

The potential client had a 1/2 hour consultation with me today, and we ended up giving each other th… Continue

Is It Time?

A recent report came out that many of the attorneys that work in the financial institutions that received the recent banking bailout, or that work for firms that represent those financial institutions are beginning to be laid off.

Naturally, this comes as quite a shock, and many don't know how to function outside of a corporate environment, but eventually they will find their way. For some others, this has come to be the time that they rethink their situation and decide to start a law practice… Continue

Delegate! Don't Procrastinate!!

I'm in the middle of coaching a new legal virtual assistant who just landed a new attorney client, sole practitioner, litigator, with a very heavy trial and hearing scheduled. She's very concerned that she's not going to get it all right because she said he's having a hard time delegating things to her, and he tries to do it all himself, even though he hired her to handle his calendar and schedule management as a spring-board for assisting him further down the road. I gave her the link to… Continue

The art of scheduling

I just got finished talking with some very interested people about The Academy and the one thing that came up was the fine art of scheduling for attorneys. I went into my spiel about it, but had to stop myself because I knew I could talk for days on the importance of scheduling, and how to finesse it just right. Scheduling for attorneys is an art form. You have to have the right amount of patience and intestinal fortitude to be able to handle the scheduling that needs to be done.

In my past as… Continue

Can an attorney really find off-site support?

Short answer? Yes. If you know where to look, that is.

Okay, you're an attorney, perhaps a sole-practitioner, and you've been doing it alone for a while, and you're putting in 70, 80, 90 hour weeks. That's not any good for your personal life, and you're beginning to notice that you're so tired, things are slipping through the cracks. Yet, you don't have the time or the space for a full-time in office assistant, so what do you do?

Get a bigger space? Perhaps. Can you afford the time to look for… Continue
